No matter how white the walls might be, there’s always a way to turn your home into a colourful palace. Cultural producer and festival director Nicole Crentsil has paved the way with her bedroom makeover which was recently featured on Medina Grillo’s ‘How I Rent‘ series. Add colour to your own bedroom via soft furnishings and a pair of statement lamps.
If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know I’m partial to a leaning print or two, and these colourful prints in Leigh Travers home are right up my street. Both are from JUNIQE who have been increasingly piquing my interest in the last few weeks. Perhaps it’s that Aperol Spritz number? Pop a few larger prints against you wall for the ultimate laidback loft look.
Colour needn’t always be a clash of bright hues; why not opt for a pastel palette or more subtle integration of one main shade. Try a more pared back approach to colour, just like Victoria of Apartment Number 4, and integrate alternative shades via chairs, cushions and artwork.

I couldn’t very well write a post on colourful rented homes without including the queen of ice cream-coloured aesthetics, Zeena Shah, could I? Zeena’s colourful shelves are overflowing with goodies, all of which tell a story of who she is. From the books to the shell vase and the Roberts radio, there’s something for every visitor (when they’re allowed again) to pick up on.
I’ve said time and time again that you shouldn’t be afraid of paint as a renter, if your landlord will permit it, and murals like this one are the reason why. The geometric statement wall is the perfect backdrop to the leather sofa. Still not sure? Just make a feature out of baskets instead.
Plants are a brilliant way to add natural colours and textures to your home without much effort. Simply pop them in a colourful pot et voila! Taylor Fuller has layered a shelf in her rented pad with plants and botanical prints – it’s simple, but effective.

The proof is in the pudding that the simple things can make all the difference to brightening both yours, and someone else’s day.
In my own home this week, I’ve been talking about the impossible task of keeping things clean. Seriously, how do people do it with a household of more than two? I’m loving this end of my living room though. That pink and yellow combination is just glorious.
