A little bit of action at the Pigalle Basketball Court
I have to admit that one of the main reasons for booking a quick getaway to Paris was partially inspired by the colour hunter within me and the need for some new material. After seeing a redesign of a certain Parisian basketball court I was curious to see it in the flesh and some rather cheap Eurostar tickets sealed the deal. I’ll be bringing you a full Paris city guide soon, but for now, I just had to share with you the vibrant hues of the Pigalle Basketball Court in all its multicoloured gloriousness. If this doesn’t make you wanna whisk yourself away to the ‘City of love’, then I don’t know what will.
French design and photography agency Ill-Studio and fashion brand Pigalle have redesigned and repainted the Paris Duperré court, offering a facelift to its previous primary coloured geometric environment.
Along with support from Nike, the new court is squeezed between buildings on Rue Duperré, around the Place Pigalle, on the border between the 9th and the 18th arrondissements. Led by its basketball-fan founder Stéphane Ashpool, Pigalle has specifically designed the court with the aim of supporting local children and encouraging them to play within the hue-filled court.
The coloured gradient-style is a refreshing burst of sass against the concrete backgrounds of the surrounding Parisian apartments and with its hot pink and bright blue gates welcoming visitors and players alike, the colour-fuelled court has certainly become a hit with the youth of the area.
Hues of fuschia, dark blue, canary yellow and burnt orange fill the space changing from a gradient-style to a more geometric nature throughout. The speckled blue and pink floor contrasts against the in-use basketballs and the Pigalle logo, designed by Ill-Studio, takes centre-stage, honouring Ashpool’s training with local kids.
The ’90s basketball-inspired aesthetic changes throughout the day with shadows forming and setting the mood within the court. No need to up the saturation on VSCO for this baby as the pink acrylic backboards and highly stylised walls have certainly got you covered. I can’t think of a better way to spend a casual morning in Paris – just come armed with your sneakers and a ball!

GO, GO, GO! It’s cheap to get there in August as most of the city shuts down – but that makes it even better!
The cleverly designed basketball courts are sometime confused the players with its wealthy shapes and colours. The regeneration and redevelopment of basketball courts have created a striking visual image of curved lines and shapes seemingly randomly intersecting. In the blog, you have clearly defined the muticoloured basketball court designed in Pigalle. The basketball court is vibrant with blue, pink, violet, and orange colours in the rubber ground and the walls surrounding the court with white and gray colours for the marking and court lines.
Can i ask, do you have to book this court to play? Or can anyone play on it? 🙂
